Riley the famous Happy Dog. Did you hear about his story? Riley's story made local, national, and international news - The Happy Dog - the golden retriever that escaped his fenced in yard and ran to doggie daycare. Tonia's best friend, her shadow, and she was Riley's human, his mom. A love that will always be and never broken, not even when Riley crossed over the Rainbow bridge in May. They spent 10 1/2 years creating Christmas memories together, and I know she and her family will cherish them always. Although, the holidays will be different for them this year, Riley will be a pawprint on their hearts.

We've been going to the mountains for over 30 years scouting the tree farms in NC, looking for that magical tree.  It's a wonderful time of year for us, so many beautiful memories are made and beautiful time spent together as a family.

The "Perfect" Christmas Tree - Nothing like the fresh aroma of a live tree during the holidays. To find the perfect Christmas tree that will last the longest and make it to Christmas, gently grab the inside of a branch and pull your hand toward you. The needles should be resilient and the needles should adhere to the branch and not fall off in your hand. The needles should stay on the tree. Alternatively, gently tap the cut end of a tree on the ground; if a few needles fall off, that should be fine as long as the tree is not dry and brown.  Does the tree have a wonderful aroma?  The is fresh scent is everything. Also, the needles should look shiny, green, and fresh—not dry or brown.

Christmas in July, is the perfect excuse for me to share the holiday joy. Besides interior decorating, seasonal decorating, the holidays are my absolute favorite, as you all know…I love Christmas!

This fun, kid friendly 14’ Elf Christmas tree was a hit with this family and their kids. From the tree topper to every decoration on this tree was shatterproof and layered with holiday cheer! The smiles on the family’s faces when seeing it for the first time…it was priceless and my heart was overwhelmed with beautiful joy. I love my job! Although, it’s not a job for me, it’s a divine passion - to bring joy and happiness to others during the holidays. Christmas in July - is twice the fun! At least for this obsessed NC holiday and seasonal decorator, my inner child comes out during the holidays! I say, bring on the holidays!

Tips To Preserve Fall Pumpkins and Gourds For Your Autumn Decor

How To Preserve Fall Pumpkins And Gourds  

Hello all, I spent my Monday soaking these cuties - pumpkins and gourds in a bubble bath. You know living in the South, our Fall temps can differ from sweaters and boots one day to shorts and flip flops on another day. Do you want to preserve your pumpkins and gourds even longer?  

No one likes to see their Fall decorations become mush before Halloween. 

For years I’ve always sprayed my pumpkins and gourds with a matte sealer before placing them into my Fall décor and it definitely works. However, I heard about this formula from a local farmer recently and I’ve researched it too. So, I thought let’s try this step in addition to spraying them. I want my pumpkins and gourds to last, and especially my clients pumpkins and gourds to last the entire Fall season without them turning to mush. Hey, they may even last till Christmas!  I’ll keep you posted! 

So these pumpkins and gourds are getting a nice bubble bath today.  Y’all, I’ve been told it works! And if it doesn’t, at least they are clean to display in your Fall décor. Doesn't hurt to try it. 

How to Preserve Pumpkins & Gourds:

*Prepare a mixture of bleach, cold water and Dawn or a dish soap of your choice. 

(One gallon water, 2 T. bleach and a squirt of dish soap.)

*Soak real gourds and pumpkins stem down to keep them from bobbing out of the water, soak for 15 to 30 minutes. Use a tub, laundry tub, outdoor sink or even your kitchen sink.

Rinse and dry well. 

*Before adding to your decor, it’s optional to give your pumpkins a quick coat of spray matte sealer. It helps preserve them even longer and it works! 

***Do not eat pumpkins and gourds after soaking them in a bleach bath and spraying them. Also, wear gloves to protect your hands anytime you are working with bleach and sprays.

How adorable is this cute red truck from Lowe's Home Improvement?  As I was shopping for Fall decorations for a seasonal client, I walked into Lowe's today to see this beautiful, joyful display of holiday decorations! Boy, did this display spark the magic of Christmas into my soul! So I had to stop in my tracks and look around at all the decorations Lowe's has displayed for the holidays. Of course, they have some great Autumn and Fall decorations too, and you can't forget about the fabulous mums and pumpkins, OH MY!

Habitat For Humanity Gaston County Women Build 

A former post I did a while back and it showed up in my news feed today. It was true gift and blessing to work with a great group of women on this home in Gaston County, NC.  Priceless, together we helped change the life of a very special family. Strength comes in numbers and it took a village to build this home. A home is more than walls, it's a place to gather and make memories with family and friends. 

These amazing photos were taken by the talented Nicole Rogers.  Check out Nicole's website for a display of beautiful pictures of all of her work. Not only did Nicole take pictures, she put her camera down and picked up a hammer and joined the rest of us. Thank  you Nicole, you are the best!

“Focus on shelter by building and renovating simple, decent affordable houses,” states one of Habitat for Humanity mission principles. Saturday marked the first day in building a home for a very deserving mother and her 11 year old son. Saturday marked the day of Habitat for Humanity’s first Women Build in Gaston County.

I have the greatest respect for all the volunteers that are apart of this project and the greatest respect for builders and contractors. Never have I really thought about what it takes to build a home from ground up until I volunteered for this home project.

I could not imagine the feelings I would embrace once, until I stepped onto the property of Amelia's new home project. The love flowing around the property as women from all cultures came together and united to build this home. The amazing feelings I can't express into words, but can only describe as the mission principles of Habitat For Humanity, “Demonstrating the love and teachings of Jesus Christ.” As the morning and the clouds disappeared; the warmth of the sun came out and I got sweaty, my arms were getting tired, but I could not lay down that hammer and I loved every minute of it!
